In this classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, The King and I weaves an uplifting tale of East meets West. The story is based on the autobiographical journals of Anna Leonowens, and is full of immortal songs like "Getting To Know You," "I Whistle a Happy Tune," "Shall We Dance?" and "Hello, Young Lovers,"
In 1862 Siam, Anna, an English widow, and her young son arrive at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, having been summoned by the King to serve as tutor to his many children and wives. Soon Anna and the King grow to a mutual understanding and respect. Along with the dazzling score, the incomparable Jerome Robbins ballet, "The Small House of Uncle Thomas," is one of the all-time marvels of the musical stage.

The King and I opened on Broadway in 1951 and won five Tony Awards including Best Musical. The 1996 revival won the Tony for Best Revival.
