As the Reign of Terror of the French Revolution reaches its bloody climax in 1794, Sir Percy Blakeney, a wealthy English aristocrat, has married a beautiful French actress. When Percy learns that his wife has betrayed his friend to the Revolutionary government, he forms a brave band of Englishmen who risk their lives to rescue the intended victims of the guillotine. This enigmatic hero is known only by his calling card: the red, star-shaped wildflower known as the Scarlet Pimpernel.
